Hoot 16 -- Gearing up for Home-Based Learning

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a fun, stress-free spring break and that you are all healthy, happy, and safe. Now that New Mexico takes precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, as you all know I am sure, schools will be closed until April 6. Please follow the email message thread from Mr. Greywolf, TISA office staff and the PTO here during this unprecedented time.

Here is what I plan to do to support your child's learning during these three weeks of closure.

  • Checking in with all of you on the first grade blog to connect. I am happy to support you online in any way I can. Please email or text me with questions and thoughts.
  • Posting links to learning sites and activities that engage your family and further your child's education. There will be online ideas that will help with hands-on learning at home.
There are a variety of tools that can support all of you, regardless of your technology at            home:  projects you can be inspired by, hands-on learning activities you can do, websites to work online, learning challenges that you can print out, books to read.
Please feel free to shoot me a text/email with your links to learning activities, apps, or projects.
I would love to share photos/short videos of inspiring activities our amazing kiddos are up to!

Here are the blog links that I got started:
    Mostly Tech-free ideas:
    https://1listo.blogspot.com/2020/03/tech-free-ideas-for-being-home-with-kids.html
    Online Home Learning Links:

    E-book resources
    https://1listo.blogspot.com/2020/03/e-book-resources.html
  • Supporting your families with online learning programs already used by your child at TISA.
Here are the recommendations for online learning:
Istation reading: 40 minutes per week
Istation math: 40 minutes per week
           Lexia: 60 minutes per week
Keyboarding Without Tears: 40 minutes per week
Epic: read as much as you can

  • STUDENT GOOGLE ACCOUNT INFO
Each student has their own individual Google account.

Your child has an email address. It is the first 4 letters of their first name followed by tisataos.org. (If your kiddo has a 3-letter first name, add their last initial as the 4th letter.)
    E.g. kell@tisataos.org
password: 12345678 (same for each child)

    ISTATION reading and math
Istation is an APP, not a website. You have to load it to your device from here:  www.istation.com/Install  or  https://www.istation.com/IstationHome/TX
    How to log on:
school: Taos Integrated School of the Arts / TISA
domain: TISA. (Type in tisa and a dot! Next, highlight/click Tisa in the window. Last, click the OK button at the bottom. )
student username: first 4 letters of their first name. (If your kiddo has a 3-letter first name, add their last initial as the 4th letter.)
student password: same as their username (first 4 letters of their first name).
    Watch for this glitch!
When you get to the login screen, it should show tisa.cs.nm in orange above your child's username window.  (If that code is not there, or a different code shows, your child will not be able to log in because they are not at TISA's domain.)

    LEXIA reading
    home page: https://www.lexiacore5.com/
    teacher's email: jutka@tisataos.org
student username: same as for Istation (first 4 letters of student's first name.)
    student password: lexi

    KEYBOARDING Without Tears (!)
Web page (NOT an app!): https://program.kwtears.com/login#/curriculum
    educator pin: 112602
click on your class: first grade
click on  your name (= username): same as your username for Istation (4 letters of first name)
click to enter your secret code: AB

    EPIC https://www.getepic.com/students
Please use a LAPTOP, DESKTOP, or CHROME BOOK to access the free program.

    class code: lle7291
each student has an individual account (by first names)

    READWORKS
How to get to student assignments:

    1. go to  www.readworks.org/student
    2. enter class code: AABCN4
    3. find your name
    4. enter password: 1234 (same for every student)
    5. complete your assignment

I hope that I can be helpful to your child during these few weeks.
Please keep up with your champion handwashing skills, and remember, the idea of stopping the virus from spreading will only work if we all limit our exposure to the greater community.
Wishing you an amazing time with your family!

Let's stay together and support each other here on the blog during these weeks out of school!
    Sending much love 💌

    Jutka
